Support for Oracle workloads on Google Cloud VMware Engine

 

 

 

Google Cloud VMware Engine was announced on 14 May 2020.

 

With the service now generally available, customers can extend their VMware-based workloads to the cloud without the need to rebuild existing workloads and applications. Customers can leverage their existing investments and tools while leveraging the speed, automation, and cost-optimization Google Cloud provides.

 

Google Cloud VMware Engine is a VMware Cloud Verified service, fully managed, sold and supported by Google Cloud. Cloud Verified is the highest level of validation for VMware-based cloud services, assuring customers that the solution offers the most complete and advanced VMware Cloud technologies with consistency and compatibility across on-premises and cloud environments. The solution utilizes the industry-leading VMware Cloud Foundation on its bare metal servers.

Support for Oracle workloads on Google Cloud VMware Engine

 

Google Cloud VMware Engine is a private cloud dedicated to a customer, thereby being a natural extension of the customer’s on-premises environment.

 

My Oracle Support Portal Note 249212.1 states “Oracle customers with an active support contract and running supported versions of Oracle products will receive assistance from Oracle when running those products on VMware virtualized environments.

 

VMware has provided expanded support for Oracle Database technical issues on all VMware vSphere platform for many years.  VMware Support provides customers running Oracle workloads on VMware vSphere platform the following advantages as part of the existing Support and Subscription contract at no additional charge:

  • Access to a team of Oracle DBA resources within VMware Support to troubleshoot related to Oracle workloads used as a data store or run within a VM
.
  • Performance tuning and best practices related to Oracle Database used as a data store or run within a VM
.
  • Faster resolution of technical issues in VMware environments via a TSANet collaborative support arrangement between VMware Support and Oracle Support.

 

In addition, VMware Global Support Services (GSS) has an excellent relationship with Oracle TSE when it comes to resolving technical issues.
